Since 1986, the National Arbitration Forum has been a leading neutral administrator of arbitration, mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) worldwide. The National Arbitration Forum's mission is to provide superior dispute resolution services to parties seeking
an alternative to litigation.
Among its full range of services, the National Arbitration Forum provides ADR administrative support to:
- judges and litigants in court-ordered ADR,
- private parties who have elected to have their arbitration or mediation governed by the National Arbitration Forum’s procedural rules,
- parties who select the National Arbitration Forum to resolve Internet domain name disputes under the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy and other similar rules,
- parties utilizing Federally-mandated ADR programs.
The National Arbitration Forum is not affiliated with any party and is compensated on a case-by-case basis only for doing the work associated with administering mediations, arbitrations and other ADR proceedings.

Definitions of “mediation” from the National Arbitration Forum
Mediation may be thought of as "assisted negotiation."
Negotiation may be thought of as "communications for agreement."
Hence, mediation is "assisted communications for agreement."
